Saunagus at Schellerup Gård
Our saunagus experience differs from traditional wellness saunas commonly found in larger spa and wellness centers.
While many saunas rely on electric heaters, we use a wood-fired sauna stove. This creates a more intense and natural heat combined with significantly lower humidity. Humidity is the primary factor in how heat is perceived, which is why our sauna can reach higher temperatures without feeling suffocating or uncomfortable. The result is a dry, powerful heat that is intense — yet tolerable.
Our sauna infusion is based on the principle of mental hormesis. Mental hormesis describes how controlled, short-term mental stressors can strengthen the mind, in the same way physical hormesis strengthens the body. When exposed to manageable discomfort followed by proper recovery, the nervous system is trained to become more resilient. This can lead to increased stress tolerance, improved focus, greater mental clarity, and more overall energy in daily life.
For this reason, our sauna infusion is deliberately designed to expose the body to controlled stress through intense heat — with the goal of strengthening both mental and physical capacity.

Saunagus
Saunagus originates from the German word Aufguss.
Saunagus is a unique sauna experience that blends aromatherapy, heat, relaxation, meditation, and social connection.
Here at the farm, we offer both mixed sessions (men and women) as well as women-only sessions, allowing everyone to choose the experience that suits them best.
The mixed sessions are designed for more experienced, heat-adapted participants and feature extreme temperatures (110–120 °C) combined with low humidity of approximately 10%. This creates an intense, dry, and powerful sauna experience.
Our women-only sauna sessions take place at a more moderate — yet still high — temperature around 100 °C, with a focus on balance, presence, and overall well-being.
Regardless of session type, each sauna infusion is a sensory and energizing experience that stimulates circulation, enhances mental clarity, and leaves the body feeling relaxed and fully recharged.
Essential oils
Essential oils are often referred to as nature’s gold, known for their ability to create harmony and balance in the mind.
Here at the farm, we use pure essential oils from, among others, Urtegården and Hedenhus. Essential oils are believed to offer various health benefits — ranging from relaxation and stress reduction to relief from physical pain and discomfort.
Cold plunge
During the winter months, we use our lake for the “cold plunge.” The lake is artificial and reaches a depth of 3.5 meters at its deepest point.
During the summer months (and parts of autumn), when the water is too warm for a proper cold plunge, we set up two ice baths.
The two ice baths are maintained at approximately 10 °C and 3 °C, respectively.
The lake
The lake is nothing short of magical.
When the lake drops below 10 degrees, we use it to get the “cold thrill” between each session.
There is both a bathing jetty and the opportunity to go into the water.
The lake is artificial – so it has neither large fish nor a muddy bottom, as you would expect from a natural lake.

Open saunagus
Price: 100 DKK per person
Here at Schellerup Gård, a saunagus session lasts about one hour and consists of three steams of 10-15 minutes each, with a break between each steam to cool off in the lake and drink fluids.
In the "gus" session, you will be accompanied by a "gus master" who organizes the session, doses the essential oils and distributes the heat with the help of a towel.
There are 18 seats in our saunagus in addition to the gus-master. This way we ensure that there is plenty of room for everyone – both on the top and bottom shelf
It is also possible to buy a 10-trip card for 1000 kr.
Private saunagus
Pris: fra 1800 kr.
We also offer private private classes. Whether it's a bachelor party, a nice time with friends, a swimming club or something completely different.
A private sauna session includes 10 people. If there are more than 10 people, it costs 100 kr. per additional participant.

Practical information
You must bring swimwear and your own towel to sit on inside the sauna.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to rent towels.
You can also bring flip flops or a bathrobe if you wish.
We will provide water and cups, but you are more than welcome to bring your own water bottle, which you can take with you inside the sauna.
The conditions for changing clothes are modest. But we have both a fitness room and a barn for the time being.
Make sure to drink plenty of water in connection to the sauna session (both before, during and after).
Important!
We recommend everyone to be careful with saunagus if you have a tendency to allergic reactions, as we use essential oils when making saunagus. The allergy/reactions can occur when you inhale the oils.
Don't participate in sauna and sauna gus if you have:
– Cardiovascular disease
– Irregular heartbeat/puls
– Fluctuating blood pressure
– Have a fever or otherwise illness
– Cancer diseases
– Certain skin disorders
- Diseases of the thyroid gland
– Have had or current being treated for blood clots, varicose veins or a skin condition with inflammation
– Drunk alcohol
– Pregnant
If you are in doubt as to whether your health means that you should not go to the sauna, ask your doctor.
Responsibilities and conditions
1. When booking and participation, you simultaneously accept and confirm that you are of legal age and over 18 years of age, and participating in saunagus at Schellerup Gård is at your own risk. You must be 16 years or older to participate in our saunagus here at Schellerup Gård.
2. Du er indforstået med og accepterer, at saunagus kan medføre allergiske reaktioner og/eller fysisk ubehag mm. Jeg erklærer derfor, at jeg ikke har følgende:
Cardiovascular disease, irregular heartbeat, fluctuating blood pressure, fever or otherwise ill, cancer, certain skin disorders, thyroid disorders, had or are being treated for blood clots, varicose veins or a skin disorder with inflammation, are pregnant, have drunk alcohol or otherwise affected by other euphoric substanses.
If you are in doubt as to whether your health means that you should not go to the sauna, ask your doctor.
3. Jeg er indforstået med og accepterer, at jeg skal følge alle anvisninger, som repræsentanterne for Schellerup ApS giver mig under mit ophold på Schellerup Gård.
4. Jeg er indforstået med og accepterer, at jeg selv hæfter for skader på inventar og andet udstyr som anvendes af Schellerup ApS, såfremt jeg handler uagtsomt, udøver hærværk eller tilsidesætter de anvisninger som repræsentanterne for Schellerup ApS anviser.
5. I agree and accept that Schellerup ApS is NOT responsible for any damage to my belongings caused due to negligent acts or omissions by Schellerup ApS or a third party, and that Schellerup ApS are NOT responsible for compensation for lost belongings, including especially clothes and valuables in changing rooms as well as things lost/forgotten.
6. I agree and accept that Schellerup ApS is NOT responsible for any personal injuries that I may cause to myself or a third party in connection with the use of participation in saunagus (including when staying at and around the sauna and the area in general).
7. also agree and accept that Schellerup ApS is NOT responsible for any personal injuries that I may suffer as a result of negligent actions or omissions by Schellerup ApS or third parties in connection with the use of the facilities, etc. which is used by Schellerup ApS.
8. I agree and accept that I cannot seek recourse action against Schellerup ApS for the compensation claims that may be asserted against me.
9. Ovenstående ansvarsfraskrivelse gælder ikke for skader, som følge af forsætlige handlinger eller sådanne undladelser af Schellerup ApS (eller dets ansatte og repræsentanter).
10. I agree and accept that the above disclaimers also apply to any minors, such as myself are responsible for, in the event that these suffer or cause personal or property damage to themselves or others in connection with the use of the facilities at Schellerup Gård, etc. which is used by Schellerup ApS (including when staying on the land register otherwise).
